What’s in your Bag?

In a previous article , I stated that these days our handbags were not merely items of necessity, a mere ‘repository for all our daily girlie needs’, but are now fashion statements. Our Editor raised his eyebrows and queried the word ‘repository’! Thesaurus’ definition of ‘repository’ is deposit, store, stock, cache, heap! etc. OK, so I was using the word with my tongue in my cheek, but let’s see what we ladies do hide in our purses .

Our day-to-day basics would probably be:  purse, wallet/credit cards, cosmetic bag with make-up and perfume, brush & comb, hairspray, keys, diary, Filofax and note pad, pen, hankies, packet of wet wipes, glasses, purse hook and cell phone with cellphone hook.   wow !!  and I guarantee this is a conservative selection !   We can augment this a somewhat by carryingtwo sets of keys – house and car: a spare pair of tights, our driving license and insurance, train or bus tickets, pillbox , and an i-phone.    If you have a boring bus or train journey to work, maybe you like reading the paper or take a book ?     For sure almost all of us have been guilty of shoving the odd small piece of shopping into our bags , but what a relief to know the Supermarket Cashier will automatically give us a plastic bag if we pop in to get something for our supper !
