Our day-to-day basics would probably be:  purse, wallet/credit cards, cosmetic bag with make-up and perfume, brush & comb, hairspray, keys, diary, Filofax and note pad, pen, hankies, packet of wet wipes, glasses, purse hook and cell phone with cellphone hook.   wow !!  and I guarantee this is a conservative selection !   We can augment this a somewhat by carryingtwo sets of keys – house and car: a spare pair of tights, our driving license and insurance, train or bus tickets, pillbox , and an i-phone.    If you have a boring bus or train journey to work, maybe you like reading the paper or take a book ?     For sure almost all of us have been guilty of shoving the odd small piece of shopping into our bags , but what a relief to know the Supermarket Cashier will automatically give us a plastic bag if we pop in to get something for our supper !

Now we havedisposed of the basics, we can let our imagination wander and imagine what other strange and unusual things we confine to our purses !

I was searching the Internet the other day and found an interesting article!  The was talking about the delicacies eaten by people in other countries.  One of these delicacies were toasted giant hormigas (ants) from Columbia that her friend had told her about.  Shopping in London’s Selfridges, her attention was drawn by a crowd surrounding a display.   To her surprise, they were looking at jars of Colombian toasted giant hormigas price £15.    She bought a jar, stuffed  it into her handbag, to take to show her friend!

For my second example:  We are a pet loving family, with two dogs both rescued , but at the time had, sadly, just lost our two adult cats.   Cruising along a narrow road through a small village on her way to visit friends, my daughter-in-law saw a young feral cat on a building site close to the rod side .  On her way back , the kitten was still there.  She stopped her car and went to see the kitten to discover that he appeared to be alone – no sign of mother – and that he had a broken back leg.  Feeling that the odds of survival were slim, she returned to her car and promptly emptied the contents of her purse onto the floor , and scooped up the kitten to bring home!  In the car she used her Purse Hook to hang the bag from the headrest to keep it upright. Her mere necessity, ‘repository’ or fashion statement had become a portable ambulance!  These clever little purse hangers certainly need to be strong!
