If you are not a fan of jewelry yourself, do not let that get in the way of giving your fiance an engagement ring that she will treasure. This is not about you, it is about her. Get her a great diamond engagement ring and she will love you even more. She will know how much time and thought you have invested, so do not think that you can fool her.

Though some women may claim otherwise, every woman wants her diamond engagement ring to be noticed. She wants others to look and say ‘wow, I want one like that’. What follows is a short guide on what to consider to ensure that the diamond engagement ring that you choose has that wow factor…

Carat : This term refers to the weight of a diamond – one carat is equal to 0.2 grams. It will depend on quality also but, generally, the more carats a single diamond is, the higher its value.

Color : Diamonds are commonly thought to all be colorless, but they actually come in a wide range of colors. Most diamonds that you will find in stores will have a slight yellow tint to them. Completely colorless ones are very, very expensive, so opting for one with a slight yellow tint is fine.

Cut : Refers to the proportions, finish, symmetry, and polish of diamond engagement rings. It is easy to know a well cut diamond when you see it because it will literally sparkle. With the advent of technology, the quality of the cut of a diamond can be determined through the use of a computerized system in seconds.

Clarity : Refers to how clear and ‘perfect’ a diamond is. This is determined by the number, size, nature, and location of the internal (inclusions) and external (blemishes) imperfections. There is a scale that you refer to, with F, meaning flawless, being at the top, and I3, meaning inclusions clearly visible, at the bottom.
