We have all seen the dollar store trinkets that more resemble something a child would want to wear. These are very cheap and usually made of plastic or cheap metal and clearly fake. No jewel thief would ever make the mistake of stealing these items. As matter of fact, most children could tell you that they are costume jewellery, especially if they have seen a lot of good jewellery.

The next level is jewelry that costs a bit more but it can still be easily spotted as fake. This is usually of a little better quality though and from a distance might even look like it could be real. This is going to be what you would most likely get for a teenager or friend but you may not want to try and pass this off to your girlfriend or mother and try to make them think it’s real.

For really good costume jewelry you are going to pay as much or more than you would for the real stuff. This will usually be at least gold plated or silver and have cubic zirconia (CZ) as replacement for the gem stones. This is jewelry that most people won’t be able to tell is not real without a trained eye. What this jewellery is for is to look great and not cost as much as a piece that was genuine would.

You can find costume jewellery just about anywhere and for any price you care to pay. Personally if I were going to spend several hundred dollars on a piece of jewellery I would go with a small piece and invest in the real thing. Most women would appreciate this more than something that looks good on the outside but is fake on the inside.

One reason to buy costume jewellery is to prevent theft. Most people who are looking to make easy money won’t bother with it unless they think they will be able to pass it off as real and that isn’t very easy to do especially with buyers who know about jewellery. You might also go with the costume jewellery if you are afraid of losing it or if it is for someone who is known to lose items like this often. It may save you a bundle when replacing it or at least some guilt over losing it.

You can find costume jewellery just about anywhere you look for it. They even have special sites on the internet that sell it for weddings and proms for when you need to look good but can’t afford to spend a lot.

What ever your reason or price range you can always find costume jewellery for just about any occasion. Weather you need something simple and understand or extravagant and gaudy there is something for everyone.
