A new year, and time to think about diamond jewellery. Perhaps purchasing expensive jewellery isn’t for everyone at the minute – certainly not for me. But I’m not looking for expensive jewellery – just good quality, reasonably priced diamond jewellery. With the new year now firmly underway, and with things looking more positive generally, I know a lot of people are starting to consider the benefits of good quality, beautiful jewellery such as diamond necklaces or diamond earrings.

A few years ago I might not have thought twice about popping down to the jeweller in town and choosing something nice for my wife. Perhaps a beautiful diamond necklace, or a diamond ring. I remember picking up a diamond bracelet and only looking casually at the price tag. Those days have certainly become nothing more than memories recently. But just because times have been hard doesn’t mean that diamond jewellery shouldn’t be affordable.

Diamonds are truly remarkable, in that they are formed over such an incredibly long period of time. That something formed in the depths of the earth can be so bright and sparkle so much is astonishing. Perhaps this is part of the reason why good quality diamond jewellery holds its value so well. Buying diamonds at a good price is a great investment – although you might not want to use this explanation when handing a diamond ring to your girlfriend!

Perhaps it’s the fiery sparkle, perhaps the clarity, maybe the strength, the age or merely the value, but there are few gifts on the earth that say ‘I love you’ much more, or much more succinctly as giving your girlfriend or wife a diamond. Diamond jewellery is synonymous with declarations of love and affection. It shows a commitment, and says more than words often could, and definitely more easily.

I made my mind up to purchase an item of diamond jewellery for my wife – perhaps a set of earrings, maybe a necklace. I wasn’t completely sure – just as long as it was beautiful, elegant and said just the right thing. But then a thought occurred to me – why not have a look online, rather than just heading to the high street as in the past?

Most people appreciate the advantages of buying online. To begin with there is the convenience of being able to lounge about with a cup of coffee browsing at your leisure. But there’s also the fact that online jewellers have far fewer overheads. The high street jeweller has to have highly sophisticated and very expensive security systems in place, not to mention the shop rent and staff to pay. This means that often online retailers are much cheaper.

I had a look for online jewellers, especially those based in the UK. The one I finally settled on, and spent some considerable time browsing, was Lloyds Family Jewellers. In addition to having a huge range, and an easy to navigate website, they offer discounts of up to 80% on diamond jewellery compared to the high street. They supply direct from the manufacturer to order, and so have very few overheads. As well as saving money I was able to browse almost every item without worrying about holding up the queue.

I decided to place an order on their website, having first checked to make sure that their order page is fully secure, which it is. As it happens I used PayPal to make my payment for a beautiful diamond necklace for my wife, and a set of diamond earrings for my daughter. Three days later they arrived, and now I’m practising my sincere look so that I don’t give the game away about how much they really cost me!
